It is officially January 1, 2010 where I'm located! And, you know what that means - only 24 days until our first 2010 Rudolph Day!
First, if you have not been following some fun and interesting threads in Rudolph Day, be sure to go back and read: *Rudolph Book and Movie Club 2010 started by Gingerbug *Rudolph Days in 2010 started by SparkleNana *Ideas/Preparation for Christmas 2010 started by SparkleNana *MHH Wrapping Party Dates started by AnnieClaus *My 2010 Rudolph Day Focus started by Gingerbug There is some great information in these threads already! So, let's narrow our focus in this particular thread to defining your personal Rudolph Day and specifically what we'd like to accomplish for January's Rudolph Day. First, what does Rudolph Day mean to you? Have you participated in them before? Second, do you have a Rudolph Day box or tote? If yes, what is in it? Do you remember to use it? Third, what is it you'd like to accomplish in January on Rudolph Day? I remember at some time in 2009 that SparkleNana reminded us that Rudolph Day did not necessarily have to be accomplished on the 25th, but if you follow Rudolph Days, set aside a time to do something, even if it's looking over the Christmas cards you received the year before. And, she also reminded us that if it fell close to a weekend we had the option of extending it and enjoying it for more than one day! It's your day - have fun with it! For me, 2009 Rudolph days were not as productive as I'd like. I realized that I don't necessarily have the time to accomplish a lot on that very day every month so this year I'm going to alternate between accomplishments of Christmas goals and enjoyment such as reading a Christmas book. I think this will work better for me personally. I do have a Rudy Day box that I looked at last January and never looked at again. I hope to use that more this year! As for January's Rudolph Day, I think I'll have to skp it as I'll be on my honeymoon and doubt I'll have time to do anything with it before I get married. So, mabye in February I'll take SparkleNana's advice and extend my Rudolph Day into two...or mayye even three days! Here's to 2010 Rudolph Days!!! Let the fun begin!

25th is actually pay day for me so I usually take a wee half day off of work to go grocery shopping. My plan this year is to spend some time working on Rudy Day things after this before DH gets home from work.
I have my Christmas notebook and DVD's on hand at all times and my plan for January Rudy day is to go through all my Christmas cards for this year and note who I need to add or remove from my list. I also plan to review what worked this year and what didn't while it's fresh in my mind. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is up to as well! |

Whee -- another fun thread for us to enjoy! Kim Loves Snow - thank you for starting this! I love it!
First -- IMHO -- remember that Rudolph Days are a GIFT to us! Not everybody has Rudolph Days -- or has any idea what they are! They are NOT to make us feel guilty for NOT accomplishing things! Primarily -- they are a way to enjoy some Christmas delights throughout the year!! And spend time with other Christmas artists, like ourselves!!!! If all we EVER did - was to read Christmas books or magazines, or watch a Christmas movie, or just read Christmas threads -- that would be perfectly wonderful! But - many of us have found that we want to do MORE celebrating than we are able to fit into the month of December! Or -- even into the months of November and December. So....... we have decided to ADD some productive Christmas accomplishments into our Rudy Day Celebrations. (Which, as Kim Loves Snow has pointed out, can easily be weekend-long celebrations!) For example -- as you all know -- my home is too teeny for good-sized Christmas parties during December. However -- we have a good-sized deck -- and a good-sized yard. It is easy and fun to give parties in good weather. So --- I give MY Christmas parties during spring, summer or fall! I just don't mention to anyone that they ARE Christmas parties. But -- I am satisfying my need to celebrate Christmas with friends! I just celebrate at a non-traditional time of year. For January Rudolph Day -- I am going to be organizing plans. Plans for one or more Christmas parties. Plans for the year-long celebration of Christmas -- on Rudolph Days. |

Quote:
Rudolph Day to me means a chance to have a little Christmas cheer each month while getting ready for the upcoming Christmas. I found a red plastic tote after christmas that I'm going to use for my Rudy Day tote, I have already put in my Notebook, supplies for christmas cards, christmas music and the yarn for the second afghan I'll be making (already finished 1 of 12). In January I'd like to get 5 cards made, work on my Notebook (both paper copy and one note copy), and try to get close to finishing afghan number 2. I have to do 1 a month so the 25th will be a good deadline date and that gives me some lee way if something doesn't work out and I fall behind.

I've rarely participated in Rudolph Days in the past. I may have done a few but always forgot or didn't have the time or any ideas. This year WILL be different.
I've already written in my calendar each Rudolph day and what my plans are for it. January I will be working on making a list of homemade gifts I want to make for this year, with start dates and deadlines. I'll also be making a supply list.

This Rudolph Day I am going to start to update my notebook with what worked and didn't work this year while I can still remember. I also would like to take some time out and organize my craft box and make an inventory list. It has been a long time since I made any crafts and I think I would like to start again. Also, I think it would be a good idea to make a list of what I would like to accomplish for Rudolph Days for the year. Last year I did participate in a few Rudolph Days and I think it really helped! I felt more connected with my Christmas plans this year (maybe I should have said last year??!!) and did not feel so stressed.

I've decided that Rudolph days for me will be to Celebrate the feel of Christmas. That feeling I miss when I am going from event to event in the month of December and I begin to get tired.
I want to wear Christmas socks, sip on something hot and delicious, and read about Christmas, listen to Christmas music and watch a Christmas movie. I may do notebook work or make lists as I dream and plan. Annie

I think for me the January Rudolph Day will be a day of making sure Christmas 2009 is fully put away and actaully organized (not just thrown into the attic to be forgotten about and sorted next year). I need to go trough my ornaments and let go of some that are not particularly meaningful because they keep accumulating and this year we couldn't get them all on the tree.
There's also a bottle of Christmas wine from the Biltmore winery that I might just save to open on that day since it hasn't been opened yet. |

I've been haphazard about participating in Rudolph Days. This year I plan to get serious. I plan to work on my notebooks this month. I have a big binder that I put pictures, articles, how-tos, etc., in. I also have a thinner binder that I put the pages that I've copied from OC, extra forms, etc. This year I bought a smaller (approx. 5x8) spiral-bound notebook with pocket dividers that is my real working notebook, and is much easier to carry around.
In Feb. I plan to work on the huge piles of things I've torn from magazines! Some I will put in recycling, wondering why I tore that out! Others I'll put in the big notebook, while I'm weeding other things out of it. In Mar. I'll get serious about what gifts I'd like to make for this year, make a list and gather supplies, which I'll put in the big lidded basket I use for my Rudy tote. I feel virtuous and organized just talking about it! Happy New Year to all! |
