Hi all.... I, too, have baked cakes in canning jars but STOPPED when I heard there is a "chance" of botulism from these cakes and breads. Please check out
http://foodsafety.cas.psu.edu/jar_bread.htm (this info is from Penn State) or
http://www.sheknows.com/articles/food-a ... g-jars.htm
and decide for yourselves. Seems I have also heard that the jar companies discourage baking in their jars... something like the jars are designed to be boiled at 212 degrees and are not make to be baked at 350. Anyway... maybe you want to check it out before you use these recipes.

My favorite "gift from the kitchen" is PW Cinnamon Rolls.

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/cinammon_rolls_/

She has several flavor variations using the same basic dough - all of which I know are YUMMY either because I've tried them or I just know :)

She also has a whole post of misc. info on making the rolls including info on making/freezing ahead. I usually buy round foil cake pans at the dollar store to make these in - then freeze after baking/icing. I can pull the pans out and thaw overnight before gifting.

I also do larger 9x11 foil pans the same way when planning on sending in for a larger group, i.e. co-workers, teachers, etc.

I love the sharing of ideas here!

I've given the "cake in a cup" mixes in ceramic mini bread/cake pans that were in Michael's $1 bins one year. I give lots of cookie plates to neighbors and friends using Christmas plates purchased at the Dollar Store or at thrift stores. I look for plates with Christmas designs around the rim so it shows up when filled with cookies.

Not exactly from the kitchen, but I'm thinking this year of starting some amaryllis to gift at Christmas time. I'm also trying some annual seeds that I've heard can be grown to bloom indoors. If they are doing well at Christmas, some of them may be gifted.

Always looking for more ideas!
