Just had a thought. Twice a year state employees here in Maryland receive a few extra dollars in their pay because no health deductions are taken out (medical, dental, prescription). I can take that extra money and add it to my savings, so long as it's not a time when I'm strapped for cash. I see about $75 when no deductions are taken out. Every little bit helps.

So far I have $10 on a Walmart card and a ton of change in the big jar on my desk, so well on my way to saving for Christmas

2013 Christmas Savings

I am also doing the 52 week plan-it is so easy to do-in fact I am doing two of them-not sure I can do two of them all year long but thought I'd do one in my husband's name and one in my name-if it works out will be great because I spent a lot for Christmas this year and we will be retiring in a couple of years so we need to learn how to cut back.

Well, I did it...I started having $20 a bi-weekly paycheck go into one of my ING accounts via direct deposit. It's not much, bur right now it's all I can swing, especially since I just started 401k here and their stock purchase program. I'm hoping to add to it when I can but at least it will help when it comes time to buy gifts!

You will be pleasantly surprised at how fast $20 grows.

YES! If I don't add any more to it, I'll still have $440-$460 for Christmas. Not bad as we only buy for each other, my mom and our (grown) kids (4). But I do plan on adding more, so next Christmas will be much better than last!

What terrific savings are happening. I added up what was in a tin today and had over 40.00 so I was happy with that

I am kind of splitting my money. I have a box for vacation and one for Christmas. I have been randomly getting cash out when I shop and putting it into my Christmas fun, Kohls checks are starting to go to vacation fund. I have the 52 week challenge but have not stuck with the specific numbers. I am adding each week what I have so technically right now I am a head but it will eventually even out and at that point I need to start adding more or somthing like that.

Yes, it is time again to put something into your savings for Christmas. Think this message has come up often? Just think how fast it will be time to do your Christmas shopping.

Found some unused gift cards in a drawer last week and thought to myself "I wonder how many other cards I have buried" so I went on a search. And uncovered more! From years back! They aren't huge but they do add up.

I think I'm going to find a a little Christmas decorated box (as opposed to my current paper envelope) and put them all in there so I will have those in addition to my Christmas account. Then I will also keep in mind what stores I should be shopping at as I work on my gift list.

I went through the house and found all the loose change I could and put it in my money box. It all adds up.
