Well, it's Jan 2, 2025! How is everyone doing with self care?

I have a steps goal daily of 2025! I am drinking/tracking water. I NEED to get on the stationary bike! Especially after the Christmas cookie intake on Christmas vacation with my family with my dad and stepma! Whoa! LOL Before that ... I really don't do sugar ... much. I also try way less gluten items. I am not doing Whole 30, but as I have in the past and so I am trying to sort of really think what I am eating this month.

Here was last year's thread! Lots of good inspiration for me for starting a new year! :)

I'm going to start watching my carbs more closely. Sugar really isn't an issue, most of the time. There are periods where I go through cravings, but have gone the entire Christmas holidays and the cookies and chocolates are still sitting where I set them, untouched. But breads and rolls ... that's another topic and one I need to focus on.

I am going to focus on moving more and and currently doing the Walk at Home program. I've not subscribed to it, but there are enough of the 15-minute walks on YouTube to keep me going. If I find myself getting bored with it, I'll switch over to some Body Grove workouts on YouTube. We do have an old community sports facility (now used for the Village's pre-school program and police training) that has a track on the upper floor that is open to the public for indoor walking. I walk with a friend there once a week for an hour. And once I get my new insurance cards, I can join a gym under the Silver Sneakers program. (For those with a Medicare supplement, you do NOT have to be on an Advantage plan to have Silver Sneakers; you can now add-on Silver Sneakers to a standard supplement).

Hi hi! I spent the last 4 months increasing my workout frequency after a long period of setbacks. It is now easy for me to fit in time 4-6 days a week, so my focus is making it varied work and increasing time spent juat a bit. Monday I walked on my walking pad for 45m, Tuesday was a rest day, and Wednesday I did a youtube dance fitness video.

Dry January. Whole 30. Already gluten free. I'm currently deciding on my Carb Macros and Intermittent fasting schedule. I may let myself eat a few more cookies first, before the kids fly out next week. :). It was a weird season -- we really didn't have much interest in cookies so we only made some yesterday. I blame the mild weather. We like snow days for Christmas Cookies!

I had a foot injury in 2024 that really slowed me down. That was a bummer and I'm hoping to get things back to normal this year. It was downright depressing. More PT to go. One thing I plan to switch up in my workout schedule. I found last year I was overscheduled in my workouts. I'd like to do something less stressful, like just walking and adding in my own weight routine. I still have plenty of group workouts on the calendar so I have room to cut. It's not like I'm a fitness maniac or anything, I just took on too much last year. The mental self-care I think is important too and being over-scheduled is not good.

I need to ride my exercise bike more. I work full time and sit at a desk. I try to walk my dog most days. When I get back to sleeping better, I may try a 15 minute bike ride before work. I'd like to do some tai chi, it's low stress and I could do it evenings without it hampering my sleep.
I gave up baking since it's just me now, and I gave up cake and ice cream, but I refuse to give up my Pepsi and Hershey's. :)

@Lori K Body Grove is so fun to watch. I do 'try' ... but I am not very coordinated for dancing! LOL
@MissBrittany Sounds like you are doing well!
@Cindylouwho I hope your foot is healing up. Yes, eat more cookies! I was doing intermittent fasting most days pretty good there for awhile. Now, I do some days and others I don't.
@Kate1964 Sounds like you have a plan worked out. Can you get up every so often from your desk and move ... walk?

Jampss, yes. The big printer is across the building, however small, but at least it's movement. Sometimes when others are at lunch I march in place here in my office. Hopefully no one sees me lol.

In front of my computer
My fitbit is set to vibrate 10 minutes before the hour if I do not have my 250 step in but does not seem to do it. If I walk twice around the inside of my house I get my steps. But if I am reading I have to play catch up. I no longer worry about getting 10,000 steps since reading some reports. And I try to do several smaller walks a day. Here two articles:

I was barely making my 2024 goal of 2000 steps a day if I were staying home doing house stuff. LOL Ten thousand hasn't like ever happened for me. :p If my friend and I walk either mine or her's neighborhood, I might get like 4000.

I'm gonna read that article next! Thanks.

I just walked the perimeter of the inside of my house ... room to room ... and got about 165 steps. So, if I find myself at the computer too long ... I am gonna get up and do laps! :)

Today, since I went to Aldi's this morning, I got in lots of steps.

The Walk from Home videos, free on YouTube, cover a mile's worth of steps in 15 minutes, using basically 4 steps. Very easy to do, easy to adapt to your needs, is short in duration, but gives you 1 mile worth of steps.

It's about the end of January. I have been making my 2025 steps a day goal. Sometimes, I have to do some laps around the house to get them in when we had this bought of freezing weather here in the south ... brrrrr. LOL

I can feel I have eaten too much carb stuff ... bread, pancakes, etc ... so today, I am gonna go back to watching that more carefully. DH is now ... retired ... and so he's home ... we are making too much toast, pancakes, waffles, banana bread ... that used to be just the weekends. I need to re-look at meals especially breakfast!! The scale was showing a tick upwards!

I had a horrible dream last night that I went to the doctor and she told me I was just minutes away from a heart attack. She did something to prevent it and I vowed to try and eat better in the future. Then I woke up with heartburn.

This might have been a wake up call. I'm a believer in everything in moderation but I guess I need to do better.

Hi! I have exercised/moved intentionally for health for 23 of the last 27 days. A lot of 20-40 minute walks on my walking pad, as well as a mix of biking, HIIT, stretching, and dance workouts. Only did hand weights twice I think.

My last two weekly blood pressure readings were significantly improved, which is great. My weight has increased for unknown reasons, though, so I am not sure what to think about that.

MissBrittany- You are probably gaining muscle which may be why your weight has increased.
Great job on the workouts!!!!!!

I feel much better in my food choices (except when I was visiting my dad ... we eat "all the things" ). I am trying to do some squats, triceps bends, and lunges throughout the day with a phone reminder. I am drinking water and getting in my steps. :)
