Yep, Taking Turkey here in June

I just pulled a turkey from the freezer that we had picked up during last year‘s Thanksgiving. Time to clean out the freeze of any Thanksgiving items. I will defrost this in the Refrigerator for Thursday’s dinner. Making my list of needed items. Asked DS and DGS if they wanted to attend. (Update DGS has baseball so they might come for leftover on the weekend) Will be thinking about any changes I want to make for this years Thanksgiving.

If you live in an area that does not celebrate Thanksgiving maybe think about what date when you would like to celebrate and to give thanks for the what is in your life. Join in the fun and make memories. I like that Canada does theirs in Oct. Much more sensible.

Oh, I certainly could change the date in our family tool Might just do that. Especially this year since Thanksgiving is Nov 28th just 27 days before Christmas.

I always like that idea of Canadian Thanksgiving in October too. Might be good for big families that normally don't get together with one another on the American Thanksgiving due to visiting in-laws, distance, etc.

My DSisIL and I had this discussion yesterday. We have set the day for our annual family get together for November 23rd. We always like to do it early as it frees up dates for closer to Christmas when every one gets a little busier. We will talk a little closer about what we will all bring to share.

Late to the party but I wanted to chime in!!
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday to be honest. Absolutely love everything associated with it. However, my side of the family has grown to the point that it is totally unreasonable to expect 40 people to be able to attend every single year. Last year we split it up. We had two meals. Now before you think, I’ve lost my mind, let me explain. Because we had so many that had two places to go. We gave them the option of lunch or dinner. We had complete meals with for both. We do it at our farm so there’s plenty of room for everyone. It’s very rural. We have to use a generator for power and take our campers for bathrooms. But it is so fun. We do have TV with ball games on and holiday movies after dinner. We have a fire in the fire pit for s’mores or just talking around it. Sometimes we take our dessert outside and have it around the fire, sometimes it’s too cold and we just stay in around the heaters. I know it sounds crazy, but it works for us. I’m sure we’ll do something similar this year.
On my husband’s side of the family, it’s a much smaller group. It’s just his sisters and their families which is only three nieces and their significant others. We usually do it at our house and we usually do it the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, however we’re going to do it the Saturday before. Arkansas plays Texas in football on that day. It is a huge rivalry here. So we are going to combine game day with family gathering time and have game day snacks. We don’t do traditional Thanksgiving food with this side anyway because by then everyone is pretty tired of it. We have done Mexican, Italian, sandwiches and soup, and a roast beef dinner in the past. I’m actually looking very forward to this day. I think it will be so much fun. I will be able to start my Christmas decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving this way. (I am a one holiday at a time kinda girl!!) In addition to this, we will be hosting Friendsgiving on Sunday before Thanksgiving so we’ll be having back to back parties. Yes we are party animals ha ha ha.!! Maybe I have lost my mind…
