My granddaughter & I made a couple of 4th of July chinese lanterns tonight.

She loved making these brought bachk fun childhood memories for me also.

Now for my question my daughter wanted to make these lanterns:

but we could NOT figure out these directions. Can anyone explain these directions better or point us to another site with simplier directions for them?

TIA

Okay, I tried my hand at the second set of directions you posted and was able to figure it out. However, my paper wasn't big enough so I don't have an end product to show you. I do have some pictures though that I took of the steps as I went along. Keep in mind my paper was a regular size sheet of construction paper and it worked but looked like crap when finished, so definitely use the size they tell you. I'll be back with pictures!

Okay, back with pictures. There are only 3 because I figured after seeing it done one way you would be able to do the other side.

This is Step 1, then you just unfold. Step 3 is the same just on the top side of the paper.

This is Step 1 showing both folds.

This is step 4, only showing the folding of one side. Like above, it's the same for the other side of the paper.

It says to continue folding corners at halfway points all around the paper, so just take it like above for every corner.

Step 8, you just make a horizontal fold lengthwise down the paper, basically so you get the appearance of lines and the shapes can pop out when you fold the whole thing up. You should be able to recognize the line where all the corners of the squares meet, just make a crease there, creating a line.

I hope this helped somewhat.

You're welcome. I think it will work wonderfully with the bigger paper.
