I used to do chocolate store-bought advent calendars for the kids. Now that they are grown up, and I had more time, I've made small pouches. I fill with chocolate and I'm usually the one eating them :)

This year I've added 'Friday night at the movie'... I put in a piece of paper on days that are Fridays and name a movie to see. I've got a few pouches with single-serving of a fancy tea too.

I've been thinking next year maybe I should have ideas for a wellness, healthy, relaxing advent calendar since it's for me. I'll be thinking of what to put in them pouches. Tea and chocolate fit well in this calendar and the Friday night at the movie.

Any ideas

I like the idea of the Friday night movie.
With the kids getting busier all the time maybe that is something that we can do next December to try and reconnect.

Had written down a whole list but can't find it :( I wanted to start enumerating the 25 days and printing them out. Guess I'll have to start over. Had thought I had posted my ideas here.

Im thinking that I might change things up a bit this year. Im thinking I might do something like this instead of the Elf- well actually the gifts can be from the Elf. Our Elf is kind of a couch potato. He does not make much mischief. He used to when Luke was younger and swim was not so early! Now he usually leaves a note that says, "Sorry folks- still sleeping! Check later!" or "Elf on Strike" He has a little elf bed- he camps in the family room for December- part of the decorations really. He does leave a small gift for Luke each day- mostly chocolate but the occasional other item.

I will keep thinking....

MissJoDee- yes I will start filling up the calendar asap :)

Tanya my elf is pretty low profile too now that I'm the only one here to take care of him. He will still bring me some Christmas dvds & Christmas music (in fact all is already bought - just needs wrapping)

I would like to do something like this for my family too.
The 25 days of Christmas. I am not sire if the kids would go for it.
Lets see.
1. Burn a Christmas candle.
2. Watch a Christmas movie.
3. Listen to a Christmas CD.
4. Drink hot chocolate with marshmallows.
5. Go and look at neighbourhood lights.
6. Read a Christmas novel.
7. Wrap last minute gifts.
8. Buy a gift for the needy.
9. Buy a Christmas magazine.
10. Have a picnic dinner at the lake.
11. Have a tech free night and look at the tree.
12. Have a milkshake dinner.
13. Take the dogs for a long walk and look at the trees through windows.
14. Have a fruit and cheese dinner.
15. Visit with some friends.
16. Watch Carols by Candlelight.
17. Donate some canned foods for a charity.
18. Have a warm bath with a Christmas scent.
19. Enjoy a dinner outside.
20. Visit with family
21. Bake some cookies.
22. Open and read Christmas cards.
23. Stay up late and tell stories of Christmas's past.
24. Enjoy our family Christmas Eve basket.
25. Take a family photo.

These ideas sound like fun. I think I will come up with a list for Dgs. and send it to them. I could include an ornament kit for them to make, and maybe a gift kit for them to make something for their parents and each other.
Pondering....

Jody, like the idea of including a craft.
When my kids were little I gave them a box full of craft items, colouring in books etc on the 1st day of December so that they could keep busy. We also have school holidays later in December so it was great to give them kits and things to do.
