Hey everyone!

I want to throw a Birthday Christmas Tea for my 5 year old daughter and 9 of her friends. I am ordering mini scones, beautiful cupcakes and plan on making tea sandwiches (any tid bits you have would be great, never made tea sandwiches before!)

I will have a craft for after. Any other ideas? Games? Anything else to make the table look pretty?

Thanks in advance for all your ideas!

We used to have teas at our cafe for little girls, they were always more fun the big girl tea parites. Let the girls get all dressed up either for real or in play clothes complete with gloves and hats. One party that we had the mothers helped the girls decorate hats. We had one that the girls got there nails do at and I even remember a doll tea party that the girls brought thier favorite doll to and then told all about her.
Keep your food simple, cut your finger sandwiches out in assorted shapes and use food the girls like, peanut butter and jelly is great, chocolate dipped strawberries, cheese staws, assorted cookies. Infact I think party city has a line of cinderella tea party plates. Oh it makes me wish I had a little one, sounds like so much fun!!

This does sound like great fun!! I only have boys, but it would be so fun to do a tea for all girls in our family!
Mabe you could find a mini purse template on the internet to make paper purses with a large sequin 'clasp' and fill it with Christmas lip balm and little wrapped chocolates!
Have a blast!

It would be fun for the girls to bring their favorite doll to enjoy the tea with them.

If you have any, break out the silver! When I was 5, my mom and I had tea parties twice a week and she always used the silver to make it extra fancy. For tea we used cream soda (since I probably didn't like tea at that age). We had little sandwiches of some sort and crackers with Laughing Cow cheese (or similar) with the fancy little silver cheese knife. And I always got a story after.

I really should do this more often for my own daughter. LOL! She's getting ripped off.

What about a teddy bear tea party? When I worked at a Christian bookstore, I started this for one of our children's programs. It was the best attended activity of the year!!! Each child brought his or her favorite teddy bear. You could do a version of pin the tail on the donkey, but maybe a hat of vest on the teddy. We had some pictures the children colored, and we hung them around the room. It was darling. Since we had boys and girls, we couldn't make it tooooo girly. lol And you could check the library for teddy bear stories (the old stand by of Goldilocks and the Three Bears). You can also improvise with ideas from other 'themed' parties. Perhaps the girls could write their own stories. Check online for pictures or other activities to do.

We also served little sandwiches of buttered bread sprinkled with sugar, cut into triangles. Put them on a pretty plate. We also did apple slices (you can put them in salt water or lemon juice so they don't brown). Little tea cookies would be so cute iced in the colors for your party decor, too.

The important thing is to remember it is for kids and just have fun with it. sigh I do miss those days.

We did this for my dd's 5th birthday as well. We bribed her brothers to get dressed tux's, they greeted the guests at the door and announced each one as they arrived. They escorted the girls on their arms to their seats with name cards.

I put out the good china, crystal, linens.

I made little tea sandwiches, frosted grapes, and scones. We had virgin strawberry daiquiris instead of tea.

You can get plain white mugs at Michaels and such that can be painted with special markers and put in the oven to cure.

Thanks so much for all your replies! You all have wonderful and creative minds! I ordered mini scones, mini cupcakes, making tea sandwiches and will have teapots with juice in it. I also have a nice holiday craft.

My only issue is I need a cheap fix for my chairs. I have like 12 girls coming and need to cover the ugly folding chairs I have. If I buy white sheets and tie bows, will it look bad?? I called a rental place and it will cost me 5$ to rent for a day. If I buy something I know I will use them for different holidays.

Any ideas????

The sheets would look good-but may be a bit bulky-but I'msure you could make them work. You could also get tea towels that go with your color scheme and attach ribbons on them to tie to the chairs. You could even iron on each girl's name to the back of the chair. Alternatly , you could get wide ribbon and tie a wreath to the back of each chair .
I'd love to see pics when you are done! Sounds like so much fun!

What charming ideas from everyone...

Here are a few more:

A fun game for little girls is "Toss the tea bag into the tea pot." Place a large tea pot, sans cover, on a table, a few feet from the girls. Give each girl 5 tea bags, and have then take turns tossing the bags, in an attempt to land one in the pot.

"Pin the handle on the tea kettle" is another game. Just hang a poster of a handleless kettle on the wall, and have the girls take turns trying to pin (or tape) a handle on the kettle - most challenging if done blindfolded.

A Mary Poppins theme or music could add to the whimsey of the affair. Music from Mary poppins could be played during a game of musical chair, or classical tea music could be played for such a game.

Another fun activity could be to decorate tea hats with scarfs and clips and pins.

It is nice to use special tea cups and send each girl home with the cup full of teabags as a favour.

You could also do a "tea tasting" to see if the girls can identify different flavours of tea or to select which tea they like the best.

You could also make it a "dress up occasion" where the girls come decked-out in hats and gloves and costume jewelry, or you could have a stash of such supplies on hand for them to dress up in and take home with them.

Just a few thought ....

May you have a joyous tea celebration.
