ETA: I had the luncheon this afternoon. We were so glad to see each other that the last guests left at 3:30~we started at 11:30. I have photos of the favors, the table, and my version of the BBQ Chicken Salad recipe(which was yummy!) on my blog at :http://catholicmomof2.blogspot.com/ Please stop by and leave a comment.

Hi!

I am planning a birthday luncheon for my friend this week. I'm planning on having it on my patio and having 6 adults and 3 children (2 are mine). I'm thinking that I'll supply the main dish and have the other friends bring sides/desserts/etc. I'm thinking about making this as the main dish: Italian Chicken Salad http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/rec ... ResultPage or BBQ Chicken Salad http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/bb ... 63774.aspx I'll probably add some cheese crumbles and tortilla chips to it, too. I'll definitely use my own chicken too.

I'm looking for suggestions for party favors (cheap ;-) ) to go along with a natural summer theme. (One of the guests is a man.) My dishes have palm trees in the center, the silverware has bamboo handles and the placemats are woven with a cream fabric border. I have a hanging candle centerpiece and will probably do some greens around the bottom of it. Any ideas for cheap fabric napkins, too? I hate to pay the price for linen ones.

Thanks!
Lisa

Re: Birthday Luncheon

How about a mini flowerpot with an herb plant as favors? You could even paint their names on it with a paint pen and use it as a placecard as well as a favor.

As for inexpensive fabric napkins-do you have a Sam's Club near you? We bought fabric napkins there for the last rehearsal dinner that we did and they were VERY REASONABLE. I can't remember how much they were, but I do remember that we couldn't buy paper for the price of the fabric ones.

Another option is to purchase a pretty fabric that coordinates with your tabletop and cut out squares of it with pinking shears...or with scissors and then hem the edges.

Can't wait to hear how it went! Sounds like a lot of fun! You are a great friend to do this! Good luck!

Re: Birthday Luncheon

Party favors could be wine glass charms with their name on it. Easy and fun to make.
