I'm not sure if this is in the right place. I went to a potluck dinner months ago and this women brought her casserole in this neat little contraption. It was like a little insulated box sewn of fabric that closed over the casserole dish and had handles to carry it by. I asked the woman where she got it, and she said a friend made it for her. Does anyone know what you call these carriers...or have any idea what I'm talking about lol?

I'd love to have one and they could make cute little gifts...maybe even do one for each holiday?

I know there are Pyrex Portables, but I would love to make one for each holiday too! That would be a cute idea! We do too many potlucks that aren't at our house!!! I'll be on the lookout, and if anyone else finds out, I would like to know too!

I've always called them "Casserole Cozies" - my DMIL got me a Mary Englebrieght one for Christmas one year.

The wooden handles slip out of the carrying straps so that you can wash the whole thing if needed.

I have the Pyrex zipup style as well - and those are great too - but not as "pretty" as the other type. I've often thought about trying to reverse engineer the design and sew some additional ones for myself and for gifts.

If anyone finds a pattern - I would love to know about it! ::eek:rnament:

I think I'll put these in my list of crafts for 2009 (don't think I'll have time in 2008... but you never know)

Here are some free patterns for a fabric carrier

http://www.gotfabric.com/projects/0505casserole.php

http://www.craftown.com/country/craft21.htm

And here is a really nice on from Nancy's Notions that does cost some money but not much if you make a bunch of them.....one for each holiday LOL.

Also, all of the major pattern companies carry the carrier patterns (Simplicity, McCalls and Butterick). You just have to be on the lookout for when they are on sale. The patterns are usually in the back with the craft patterns.
