July 12 Party, party – what is your favorite holiday drink recipe?

Wassail is always served at the Nassau County Bar Association's holiday party. It was a great place to work!

Here’s a recipe for a lot of Wassail; feel free to cut it down to suit your group. Wassail is a traditional hot mulled drink that was served at Twelfth Night celebrations and other times during the winter holiday. Port or sherry can be added to make it into an adult beverage.

Wassail
  • 2 gallons apple cider
  • 2 cups fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
Mix apple cider, orange juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and sugar together in a large pot over medium-low heat.

Place cloves and cinnamon in a tea ball; add ball to the apple cider mixture. Simmer mixture until warmed through, about 15 minutes. Serve from pot with large ladle.

We have a favourite drink for Christmas. We have had this every Christmas for as long as I can remember. It is easy and the ingredients can be bought now (just check Use By Dates).

Fruit punch.

1.25 litres lemonade (Sprite)
1.25 litres dry ginger ale
1 litre fruit juice (any flavour)
ice cubes made with fruit juice. (this stops diluting the mix when the ice melts)
You can add fresh fruit of your liking but we never do.

Pour all ingredients into a punch bowl or drinks dispenser and serve....easy

Here, I always have a bottle of commercially-prepared egg nog on hand and serve it over ice with a sprinkle of nutmeg. Or sometimes a splash gets added to coffee in lieu of creamer. I have my dad's recipe for home-made egg nog, but it includes raw eggs, so I'm hesitant to use it. The wassail recipe looks delicious and I may have to try a small batch of that.

I did a very similar recipe to Halimer's Wasail a couple of years ago for Christmas Eve.

I kept it in a crock pot to free up Stove space.

Worked wonderfully.

Here is a Christmas Sangria that is wonderful:

* Red zinfandel- 2 bottles
* O.j. concentrate- 1 can
* Cranberry juice concentrate-1 can
* Pineapple juice- 2 cups
* Fruit- apple slices, orange slices, cranberries, grapes
* Gingerale- 1 liter

Directions: 24 hours before get together: Mix all ingredients up to the ginger ale.
Refrigerate. Right before serving-add gingerale.

We usually double the recipe for a big party.

Our favorite drink is Sparkling White Grape Juice or a sparkling wine/champagne rimmed with red sugar with pomegranate seeds. So easy and so yummy.

Eggnog, and Chai Tea Latte as well as Mom's fruit punch (Hawaiian Fruit punch mixed with ginger ale Vernors if you can find it) are the favorite drinks here.

Store-bought eggnog... but just for me as nobody else likes it.

We always make a bowl of my mom's punch - no quantities really... just taste as you add
Vodka
Rhum
1 liter of orange juice
1 liter of pineapple juice
A wee bit of grapefruit juice

Add some marachino cherries, slices of oranges, lime and lemon (they can all be frozen so it helps keep the punch cold at the same time as adding taste)
