It is so sad to see businesses close. Kmart here is not doing well at all. Not sure how Target is doing, I know they closed some stores

I made the expensive mistake last year of picking up a couple of Visa (or maybe they were American Express) cards for my nephews - 2 cards, $50 each, and there was a $9.95 service charge to activate them for each one! My first experience with this type of transaction, didn't know any better. Just found out my bank makes the Visa cards available for just the face amount. I'll be picking them up there this year.
^ that's disgusting! i bet that extra charge info was written very discreetly.

I like gift cards. Haven't received or gifted any in a while although I may give some this year. There's some innovative ways to "wrap" them too

Revisiting this.

I have $50 so far on my supermarket rewards card. For every $2000 you spend you get either $10 off a shop or you can "bank" the money to use at Christmas. I am banking mine. $2000 sounds like a lot but I do all of my shopping at this store so I may as well get something for it.

Need to start buying GCs from the local hardware store. Will get DH $250, DB and DFSIL $100 each. The boys shop at the hardware store all the time so I know that these will come in handy. Will go over the next few weeks and start purchasing them.

Can use it for anything they sell but not on gift cards at either place. Wished they did.
I am not sure if I can purchase a gift card with mine, I have never asked. I usually just redeem it at my last shop before Christmas.
I also don't know if I need to redeem it at Christmas or if I can roll it over to the new year.

We get points at one of our grocery store chains as well as a drug store. Can use it for anything they sell but not on gift cards at either place. Wished they did.
Can you apply the points to save money on your shopping bill. If so place the cash amount saved from using those points into an envelope and when you have enough saved up use that cash to buy gift cards.

What a clever idea. I will ask my supermarket about the GC and if I cannot redeem I will do what you suggest.

I’m assuming we can use our points on cards too. I always buy mine when I’m getting groceries so there’s never been an issue. I know we can use ours on gas which is nice.

Thanks for the reminder about card points. After two trips in August, I've got nearly $200 in credit card points. Need to check the terms to see if they roll over into 2022, or if they have to be redeemed before the end of the year. I've got to make a trip to TX in early Jan., so this would cover my airfare.

Got the email this morning to say I can unlock my $130 on my supermarket rewards. Can be used between now and January 1st and whatever is not used will roll over to Christmas 2022.

Be sure to check places like Dollar General. Thanksgiving day, they had 20% off some and 15% off Lowe's gift cards. I bought three for Lowe's. The only caveat was they had to be purchased with cash, which I had, but many people don't carry cash anymore.

Going to maximise my rewards as much as I can this year by looking at the app weekly and purchasing items I need that may have bonus points associated. I already have $40 saved towards my Christmas groceries and am hoping to have around $150 by Christmas.

A little hint that I heard this week for saving for Christmas.
if your weekly or fortnightly grocery budget is for example $200 and you only spend $185 put that remaining money in an envelope to use at Christmas.
I am going to try it over the next few shops and see how I do.

By boosting rewards and shopping the sales my rewards card just ticked over to $100 today. Hoping to ramp it up at bit more so that I have plenty to spend come December 1st.
