Make room for Santa's bounty in children's rooms, our cleaning focus this week in the Holiday Grand Plan.

Will Santa be visiting your house this year? Time to sort out the short stuff with Kids' Room Week at the Holiday Grand Plan!

This week, we focus on kids' rooms for deep-cleaning, decluttering and organizing so that there's room to spare for holiday gifts. We'll assess each child's possessions, record clothing sizes, and prepare a Gift Ideas Planner for Santa ... or Grandma.

Our holiday prep assignments include assembling freezer meals, working on hand-crafted gifts, and continuing to buy gifts and holiday supplies.

HOLIDAY PREP
  • Make one batch of Holiday Goodies.
  • Make one extra meal for freezer again labeled HOLIDAY MEAL.
  • Buy two canned food items from menus (get 2 of each item, one to use and one to donate to food drive).
  • Buy 1/8th of TO BUY gifts. Save all receipts, note return policy before buying. Ask for gift boxes.
  • Wrap and label packages. If needing to ship, get some shipping boxes now and store packages in them.
  • Work at least 1 hour a day on homemade gifts.
  • Check smoke detectors and clean them, change batteries if needed.
  • Make "goody basket" for guest bath, from samples found in abundance in stores right now.
CLEANING/ORGANIZING AREA: KIDS' ROOMS

This week's assignment, from Katie Leckey's Cleaning Grand Plan:
Kids' Rooms: Let's get shelves done first (if appropriate). Use same method: examine, toss/save/donate, replace onto shelves.
This is a good time to get rid of games with lots of missing pieces, or save for while you're in the playroom in case the pieces are hidden there.
Desk drawers: go through (or have your children if they're older) and sort out what papers need to be saved and what can be tossed.
Get rid of old magazines, old McDonald toys, toys in pieces, broken crayons, non-functional pens. make room for the stuff on top of the desk!
Clothing Drawers and Closets: Again, check for current sizing. Too small? Donate to a friend's kids, Goodwill, or homeless shelter. Torn? Can it be used for rags?
Box up anything to be saved for a sibling. Label and the box and put it away now. Throw out anything not able to be repaired! Have your child try on questionable items.
Before we go further. have you thought about taking curtains down, and washing? Better start now! Throw the bedspread & blanket in the wash too!
Time to check under the bed for the nasties down there. This might be a good place for under-bed storage containers.
Once everything is picked up off the floor, don't forget the ceiling fans, and wash your ceiling fixtures. Now's a good time for windows & blinds too! Don't forget to dust, & polish any wooden furniture.
If you have boxes stored in bedroom or closets make sure you have a good marker with you to mark the outside of boxes with contents.
(You can do this but I find that giving the box a code number, letter or name and not marking the contents directly on the box but instead on an index card placed in your SHE box, you can at anytime change the contents of the box without writing and rewriting on the box what is inside.
You can use the same methods for playrooms or play areas. Perhaps if you have a hobby room and no children, you can use this for your sewing or craft room.
If you have none of the above, then take a relaxing bath. Then go over any areas that still need "doing".

No kids room here. Will do the guest room. Once that is done I will have upper level of the house done and just do maintenance. I have yet to do the kitchen, laundry room, craft room and family room. Once the leaves start falling a lot of time will be spent outside raking and piling by the road for pick up. DH does most of it but I would like to help him a little more, he does not like to do the flower beds and up close to the house or around bushes. I can help with that. I might do some winter gardening too!

No Kids room. Debating on taking the week to catch up on the growing list of things I've missed, or to work on the office area (a disaster, but on my lower level). Feeling overwhelmed today, not sure why, and can't make a decision to save my soul.

I am working in the guest room and hall this week. It is the last room to be done on the upper level.
I finished my part in the guest room yesterday. DH has one thing to do in there and done.
Will work on hall Thursday as today and tomorrow I will be out of the house. Errands today and supervising virtual school tomorrow.

I am so behind this year on the early weeks. Luckily the “kid” is now a teen so manages her own room, and we spent a lot of time redecorating it and fixing it up for her earlier this year so it got a really good deep clean and declutter as part of that. I need to wash her windows, that’s all.

But I also need to get back to the master bedroom and tackle a few hotspots there, and try to get ahead on the spare/guest bedroom (currently also doing duty as my office and craft room - and I normally do the actual office in the box room, that is currently DH’s office, the same week as the guest room).

Will do grandson's room today. Air conditioner was taken out yesterday. Windows will be washed, curtains are new & walls were painted earlier this year so they should be good.
His clothes need to be gone through, though.
I also need to play a little catch up & do the master bath.

I too am feeling very behind this year! I'm super busy all the time - but keeping the daily plates spinning leaves me with little time to do the "extras"...

I haven't touched DS room yet this week. But I have tonight and tomorrow before I'm officially "behind" yet again! LOL I also never deep cleaned the master bath shower last week - so need to do that too!
