How does that song go?

Haul out the holly
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again
Fill up the stocking
I may be rushing things but deck the halls again now
For we need a little Christmas, right this very minute
Candles in the window, carols at the spinet
Yes, we need a little Christmas, right this very minute
It hasn't snowed a single flurry but Santa, dear, we're in a hurry ...

Well, except for that last line … we got plenty of flurries yesterday – 6’ here, 11” at DD’s house. Even so, it’s time to get our homes ready for Christmas, dress them up, make them sparkle with the twinkle of lights and holiday charm.

This is the week to:
  • Get the tree set up and decorated.
  • Set out the nativity.
  • Place any last-minute outdoor decorations.
  • Set out other decor that you use in your living areas -- that Santa collection, angels, candles, candy dishes, runners and other holiday linens you may use on your end and coffee tables.
  • Swap out any scented wax melts, diffusers, potpourri, bathroom spray that you may use.
  • Change bedroom linens and launder them if you had Thanksgiving guests; if you use Christmas linens, now is the time to swap your regular linens for Christmas ones.
  • If you use holiday towels in your guest bathroom or powder room, pull them out.
  • Pull your holiday table linens from storage; launder and iron them (if needed)
  • If you have holiday glassware/serving pieces, this is the week pull them out and run them through the dishwasher.
This is also the week to double-check your holiday grocery list and add anything you may have missed or used up during Thanksgiving preparations. Yep, will need another evaporated milk and an additional box of chicken stock.

I discovered over the weekend that the Roku (free) streaming service is carrying several iHeart Christmas channels – all free of charge. So, if you like Christmas Classics, there’s likely a dedicated channel for that; they also have a Christmas Jazz channel and one with Christmas Hits (a mix of classics and contemporary), and they likely have channels for several other genres. Each has music broadcast to a holiday “screen saver” – think Yule Log, backed by holiday tunes. Simply search for iHeart.

So, are you with me? Time to get a move on! Pick your station and crank up the tunes! Time to make our homes sparkle!

Fall comes down. Winter mantle goes up - first showcasing Hanukkah and then Christmas.

Usually by this point of Thanksgiving weekend I am pretty much finished with decorating. Not doing near as much decorating this year and seems to be taking forever.
Since the ironing board is out I’m doing husbands shirts, so that’s taking a little extra time. Of course we have things going on the entire week too. I will keep plugging away and get everything done.

I will be putting up my new Christmas tree this week. I bought a 2 foot pre lit tree that I will use this year seeing as though we will not be here on Christmas day.

My little tree (with snowflake ornaments made by my DM) was finished last night, and I finished the living room tree this morning. I've got the end tables and console linens changed, and I have the tablecloths for the dining room and kitchen tables out. Just need to put the dining room table cloth on (have to clear boxes for tree ornaments, first) and need to iron the kitchen tablecloth. Hope to get that done yet today. Tomorrow I'll pull my Christmas angel collection and decide how many I want to put out (nearly 50 angels, if I put them all out). Can't find my wax melts or nativity -- probably in the same bin, which I've not gotten down from the top shelf. Will pick up a new box of wax melts when I'm out shopping later this week.

I've decided against putting holiday towels out in my guest and primary bathrooms, and unless DD wants flannel sheets when she's here over the weekend, I'm not changing the guest bed to Christmas sheets this year, nor am I putting flannels on my bed. It is what it is this year with all that's going on in my life right now. I'm happy with things how they are, and I'll use my Christmas china (dishwasher safe and easy to pull out and put away, which will make Christmas Day festive with family and friends.

Ham is ordered.
Finished decorating the house this evening. Tomorrow will vacuum, sweep and mop kitchen, dining room and bath. Need to fluff some tissue paper in gift bags and wrap a few gift for our son. Rick took care of the cards and cash gifts for the service people. Think we are in decent shape here.
I treated my self to some fresh flowers for the dining room table instead of the usual artificial arrangement.

Put the green and red towels in the bathroom and a Christmas tea towel and table runner in the kitchen. A few Christmas candles in the loungeroom. Very simple but just the hint of Christmas
