Kim ~ You can Google "pinecone firestarter craft" and come up with lots of sites. Here's one: http://tinyurl.com/2gx4ul

We colored the wax, but with only using two coats of wax, the color did not show up. We also used several different chemicals but did not see any special color in the flame of the one we burned. We didn't label which ones had which chemicals, so we really have no idea. In any event, I think they will make great firestarters.

DJ thanks I have seen the different ways to make them have 3 bags of pinecones kids have picked up thru out the years. I just didn't want to make them and have them not work. Thanks again.

We dipped them twice and used sawdust after the final dipping. The sawdust helps them catch fire. Also we used parafin that we bought at the grocery store. It might burn better than using old candle wax, I'm not sure.

I'm curious how everyone did. If you've been following along, I did really well. There's only one thing that didn't get done, so it will be a gift for later on (Valentine's or hostess gift for DD). This challenge was quite an incentive to me to see what I could write off. For some of the items, I listed each step, so I could keep checking things off. That helped a lot. Here's the end result:

I got everything done except for one scarf for one of my brothers girlfriends guess that's what I get for trying to start and finish it the day before Christmas eve. When I had to work 7-4 on Christmas eve. Oh well it will be finished tonight and she knows its coming. Maybe I will give it to her this weekend when she comes over to start my taxes.

Everything was well received. One of my SIL's requested that I start making two of everything one for whom it is for then one for her so that she doesn't try to take everyone's gifts anymore.

I had fun making all my crocheted wash cloths. I didn't branch out to anything more. Well, I did make a recycled Christmas card basket. That was real cute. So, this year, with all the ideas I saw on here, I may try one or two different new things! Thanks!
