Yep!!! :D

I usually start out strong and then fizzle ... o_O

However, I put a reminder on my phone and I'm thinking if I even just do about two of those things on the list a week ... I should be good! :)

I really need/want to do a total clean out of my house! I usually start too big and too many things at once and then it really gets messy and I am overwhelmed.

I plan on starting on one drawer, one shelf, etc. at a time, and really getting rid of stuff, kind of like Diedra's Swedish death cleaning. DH still has his brother's five or more storage units in Nebraska that we are paying for. It has been a year, and I'm hoping he will let go and we get some company to sell/get rid of the stuff.

We have his niece coming in the spring for a vacation so I have a timeline/deadline that always motivates me, lol.

Starting on one shelf or drawer sounds like a good place to begin. :p

Oh my, I do hope you all can let go of the storage sheds. My mother was a hoarder. She had storage sheds with nothing worth saving in them. My brother is a hoarder. Our dad helped him go through and get out from under storage sheds in three different states!

On a side note, hoarding and OCD are in the same family of mental illness. While my DD25 has some OCD issues, my DS14 really deals with OCD. Both kids have wanted to keep too much things here and there, but over the years I have been able to help them purge. :)

I plan on going through the house again to purge too! I am at that stage in life where I only want necessities. The most difficult for me is paring down the holiday items and not adding more. I want to reduce my things so when we sell the house it will not take much to load up and move. We live in a very expensive county (just outside of Cook County Chicago) and I am not staying here. Mom is in MI and will need someone to take care of her when she can't manage on her own. She has fallen several times in the past 6 months b/c she won't wait or ask visitors for help. If we could move closer so I can check on her a couple of times a week that would be ideal.

I am full of good intentions at the beginning of the year but it is so incredibly hot here that I soon give up.
There are plenty of organising projects happening at the moment and I am looking at one hosted by the blog "A bowl full of lemons"
I just need to do little things so that I can achieve things in the Summer months and also get the house ready for the long, long winter.
I am so ready to get this house in order.

You know. Now that I'm thinking, I may have not answered this all the way!

You get a month to do a section! Not that whole list! :)

Now, I think it was first done as a section a week ... but I've given myself a month, if I need it!

Actually, it's totally whatever works for you! :)

I hope that helps.

Decor is down in the kitchen with DH permission. DH doesn't get to enjoy the decor during December so requested that I leave the LR for a while longer.

Kitchen is cleaned up with the refrigerator needing a little more but will do it Friday the day before garbage pick up on Saturday. Whatever is left will go out then. DDIL forgot the turkey so I put that in the freezer, as DS with be here for a conference the week of 21st 27th for a conference.

Done! All dedecorating is done throughout the house, all has been dusted, vacuumed, floors mopped. Bathrooms have been washed and beds all washed and remade. We are back to normal! Need to clear out fridge though.
Today I got all pics off the iphone. Now I need to work on computer pictures this week.
I also need to write notes about what went right /wrong and what needs to be bought for 2018. I already have a few gift suggestions

Well done Lucie. Nice to start the New Year with a clean slate. Makes it easier to see what needs to be done.

I'm going to join you too! I did this last year applying the HHP ideas for planning a graduation party. There's no party this year but I like to keep up with the cleaning, organizing and decluttering. It's so much nicer when I know others are doing the same thing!

We had a snow day today so I took advantage of that and got more things done that I had imagined earlier in the week.

Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room, Bathroom, and Hallway have been cleaned up and decorations put away.
Tree decorations are off the tree.

Still to do this week:
  • Organize wrapping area
  • Take decorations down from the Family Room and Mud Room
  • Take down outside decorations
  • Update Address book with new addresses that were sent
  • Put DVDs away

Still to do this week:
  • Organize wrapping area Done
  • Take decorations down from the Family Room and Mud Room Done
  • Take down outside decorations. Single digit and sub zero wind chills has kept me from doing this. Tomorrow looks warmer. Done
  • Update Address book with new addresses that were sent. I just had another returned card addressed to my in-laws stating that they moved and left no forwarding address which is news to me. I called them and we all had a good laugh about it. We figured somebody was too lazy to deliver the mail. Done
  • Put DVDs away Done

I'm getting through the list slowly but surely. :)

Slowly but surely is the only way!! :) And those temps would keep me from doing it, too!! o_O

I want to finish the area I started above ... but I went onto organizing the food pantry instead. It's like how I clean house ... I start in one room and see something that needs to be moved to another. I get in that room and see something to clean or organize and then something else doesn't belong and so I carry that to it's right place and then in that room I start to clean or organize and that first room I started with ... really doesn't get my full attention. Oh well. Things get a little done here and there, I guess. LOL :p

Am trying to finish up in the kitchen this week. It has been a dumping ground since Christmas. We also received some food items etc in our stockings that I need to find room for. Would rather take my time and get it done properly so if that takes another week or so I am happy with that.

I call that "If you give a mouse a cookie" moment. Have you ever seen the children's picture book by that title?

I have those moments often when I'm going through a room that needs a good cleaning/decluttering. I have such a room that I want to work on this week - the office. It was our catchall room for Christmas. Gifts were stored in their on Christmas Eve/Day. Items/papers belonging to others who were not around when cleaning up the house were placed in their too.
  • Sort through papers.
  • Sort through books.
  • Put away items back in their proper place.
  • Vacuum office.
  • Dust office.

The office area looks good for about 30 seconds and then something gets dropped off and the cycle starts again. I'm not giving up but I'm being realistic.

I've been painting our dining room furniture this week. It's about 50 yrs old and it shows the wear and tear. The buffet is primed but I will finish painting it next week. Too much is going on during the next few days. After that, I will work on the china closet. I'm trying to pace myself with this one.

It has been too hot here. Wondering if I should stop for a month or so and start again when the weather is cooler or just do the minimum now.
