My daughter and I want to skip the big meal this year and make some good ol chicken and dumplings. If anyone has a recipe that they use and is great, please let me know. I'd prefer using one without canned biscuits.

That sounds like a great idea to me. I don't have a recipe that's one thing I'm not that good at cooking. But I'd like to see the recipes that are shared here...

I don't have a recipe either as we just do it. I will tell you that you just start by boiling a chicken in water, when done take out chicken and debone, add some chicken broth or bouillon cubes and return to boil. To make the dumplings for every egg you use, put in a tablespoon of water. Whisk it up with lots of salt and pepper and then begin adding flour. You will keeping adding flour in small increments until the dough is a good consistency, think when you pull the spoon up out of the dough it doesn't stay in the bowl it bounces up to the spoon. Then just drop by spoonfuls into the boiling chicken/broth. Make sure you add lots of salt and pepper.

Forgot to mention to put the chicken back in with the broth, but you probably got that. LOL
