Decorating every dare of the house for the holidays is fun for the whole family. It is even possible to make a fun, easy, inexpensive shower curtain for the bathroom to let everyone know that holiday spirit is alive and well in your home. Here are several ideas to create a shower curtain that is personal and an excellent project for the kids to help with.

For this project you will need:
A clear vinyl shower curtain
Paint pens or acrylic paint
Craft foam
Hot glue gun with low temperature glue
Paper plates and brushes or sponges

Cover your work area with a large drop cloth to protect your floor or table. Unfold the clear vinyl shower curtain and spread it out. Wipe both sides with a damp sponge to remove that dusty powder that is on new shower curtains.
If you plan to use acrylic paint, squeeze a small amount of the desired colors onto a paper plate before beginning. Then take a paint pen, brush or sponge and draw a freehand design on the shower curtain. If you would prefer, you can draw the design on paper and then trace it on the shower curtain or simply use some stencils. It will look better if you keep it fairly simple with fewer small details. Some ideas include a Santa face, Christmas tree or glittering snowflakes. Using the other paint colors or pens, fill in the design as desired. Accents can be cut from craft foam and then glued to the shower curtain. Allow it to dry overnight or at least 8-10 hours. Hang it in the shower with the painted side toward the bathroom.

A second idea utilizes fabric. There are so many fun and attractive fabrics on the market today that finding one that you like is easy.
You will need:
Christmas fabric from your local fabric store, making sure it measures 72” x 72”. (You will probably need to create a seam down the middle)
A vinyl shower curtain liner
Metal drapery clips
Fabric paints, optional
Sew a small ¼ “ seam down the middle, then fold over and hem all four sides. If you wish, fabric paint can be added for accent effect, such as gold or silver. Make sure to place some cardboard or other material under the fabric so that if it bleeds through, it will not ruin your work surface. Attach the curtain and liner to the shower rod with drapery clips, which do not require a hole or grommet to be installed and make them an easy choice for a temporary shower curtain.
Some other fabrics that would work and would not require as much sewing would be using a holiday tablecloth, or a flat sheet that is at least full size. A final idea is to use terry cloth towels in holiday colors. What could be more practical than using towels as a shower curtain? Buy the bath sheets, which are the largest, as you will have to sew several together to get the 72” x 72” size.
