I paid $6.10 + a $0.30 surcharge for organic, cage free eggs yesterday - yikes! I'm adding that detail to my memory planner so I can see the change in six months. And this was at the commissary on base!

I bought a 6 pack of 16oz cartoons of egg white the other day for less than $13. I will replace eggs in some recipes with egg whites and use less eggs and more egg whites in breakfast casseroles.

Organic eggs were $10.50 for a carton of 12. Normal free range eggs (if you can get them) are $6.99 a dozen

I bought chocolate chips yesterday and have stored them in the freezer for baking at Christmas. I know that the price will go up again so have off set that by buying early.

Chipping away at the lists. I am often surprised at the use by dates of things. I have a master list of what I need to buy and when I am at the shops if I see something that is on sale or a price that I am willing to pay I look at the use by dates.
Last week I got lollies for our Christmas Eve and NYE baskets. Half price and the use by dates were March and April 2026. They are ticked off the list and stored in ziplok bags and into a plastic tote so that I am not tempted to eat them.

Had a quick chat to Mum over the weekend and started thinking about what we may be serving on Christmas eve and Christmas morning. Very loose ideas at this stage.

Heading towards the second half of the year. No great panic yet but I do need to set aside some time to do some tidying up of plans.

I also need to tidy up ideas. For the last ten years or so, we've had takeaway on Christmas eve. We decided a couple of weeks ago to have a buffet of sandwiches and other things instead.
A d for the first time in six years, we're having a traditional Christmas dinner.
I feel very out of touch

I like your idea for the buffet for Christmas Eve.
We traditionally have Chinese food on NYE

Chinese was our go-to, but the one we use (or used to) has done a total 180 in quality. We don't really trust any others in the city :(
Bugger. It is a shame when things go down hill.
Let us know what you decide to do for your buffet, I am always after new ideas and I like the idea of sandwiches/wraps etc.

Nearly time for me to start using up the Winter type foods that are in the freezer, soups, curries etc. I will transition in the next month or two to buying items for the Summer months. We eat vastly differently depending on the seasons.

Heading into the back half of the year, we are now closer to Christmas 2025 than we are to Christmas 2024. Time for me to really knuckle down over the next few weeks and get plans and lists finalised. As part of my personal CIJ chores I did double check what I have in my stockpile and made sure that I crossed things off in my planner. I still have quite a few items to purchase but am in a reasonable state at this stage.

Summer is winding down here and schools will starting up in a few weeks so that means grocery stores will be having some decent sales. Our local grocery store had frozen pizzas and jars of spaghetti sauce on sale pretty cheap so I stocked up on those.

Talking to the kids over the weekend and they are going away for Christmas and into New Years. We have been asked to house/dog sit. That is fine, works for us. I will need to decide though what DH and I will be doing for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning breakfast.

Wow, Katrina, that's a big change!
It is. We will celebrate Christmas with them early. We will still go to Mum's for lunch on Christmas day. It will all work out.

Katrina, you may find it enjoyable if you are accustomed to hustle and bustle. We have always had big family parties to attend on Christmas Eve until 2 years ago. Now it’s just the Hubs and I, since the kids now attend events with “the other side”. We attend our church’s candlelight service then home for chicken enchiladas and dessert, then old Christmas movies until bedtime, you know, around 9 pm. Lol. It’s really nice.

Same here. We celebrate with family in November, as 2 of the 4 families have a day's travel to get here. I am concerned about the weather, so if we celebrate early, I am okay with that. I would like DH to do more outside the house during December, but he gets so cold and doesn't enjoy going out. It's okay, we can focus more on the Birth of Christ during December.
