Yes!! @missjane You, too?! Around end of November or early December, I went in search of the candied red and green cherries with the pineapple for these yummy fruitcake cookies I make at Christmas. Went to several stores and NOPE. Nada! That was soooooo weird. I looked online too. Limited and pricey. I did look up on Pinterest about maybe HOW to candie my own .... hmmmm.

DS was disappointed. Those are his second fav to frosted sugar cookies.

It's a yummy eggy brown sugar cookie with those candied fruit and then walnuts and raisins. Oh well, maybe 2026 if I keep an eye out waaaaaay earlier for the fruit.
Buy now. Dried fruit keeps a long time and you can extend the length of storage by vacuum sealing it and keeping it in the refrig (1 year)or freezer (forever). If they dry out you can soak in juice, alcohol or water to soften.

This is a very good tip. I have some dried fruit in the freezer to use for the fruit cake that DH bakes. It uses a tin of crushed pineapple so that rehydrates the fruit.

Still very early in the year...
Has anyone solved the dried fruit problem?
How are you doing with putting anything away for Christmas?

I found the fruit on Amazon! It was on mark down and the dates weren't expired. It's sealed in a bag in the pantry. Baking time will be here before we can turn around!

Oh, that’s good news. I’m glad when we are able to tick something off the list. You are right, won’t be long before we are in the baking time.

Found this info on storing dried fruit.
Store dry fruits in airtight containers (glass jars or vacuum-sealed bags) to prevent moisture and oxygen from causing spoilage. Keep containers in a cool, dry, dark, and cool place (50-70°F), such as a pantry. Refrigeration (up to 6 months) or freezing (up to 1 year) is ideal for long-term storage and high humidity

Diedra, that is very good to know. Would be helpful for those who are managing to buy their fruit now. Mine is in the freezer.

This was written by @frostythesnowman in another thread and seems to make real sense,

"Yes its definitely worth buying now and setting things aside as this Iran war will hit us all....Food prices and energy prices are going to go through the roof very soon.....Hopefully not as bad as covid but we have to be vigilant right now"

I totally agree. It could be wise to have a look through what is on your list of ingredients and maybe purchase any appropriate items now. I think that maybe things will get a little harder to find and certainly the cost will rise.

Ticking off items off my master list. I am pleased that I have managed to buy quite a bit already, just need to mark things off the shopping list and in my planner. I am aware that the prices are rising (again) and it really helps to know what we are wanting to purchase. I am being very vigilant about looking at the use by dates and storing things correctly.

Shopped again today and got a few things. Juice for a bag of drinks that I do for DH. It is a good gift and it stocks us up a little before Summer. Today I got pineapple juice. Also got some lollies for another gift that I do for him. I fill 3 Christmas jars, one with chocolate covered sultanas and almonds, one with skittles and one with white chocolate raspberry licorice. The use buy dates are well into 2027.

My children decided we should do a combined family vacation at the beach, so I'm starting to buy a few things for that.

I bought a brisket this week. It was 3.47 a pound and cost almost $56.00, but it will provide 2-3 meals for 10 people.

What a wonderful idea. Do you have dates set aside?
I would like to have an idea of what we might be doing for Christmas Eve etc but if I asked DD about it just yet I would get a lot of eye rolling.
I am a planner, she is not.

Jody, I often will just casually mention a few things just to put ideas out there. This year will be different as DD's baby will be a newborn. I am getting better at making plans and then fitting them in where and when fits in with DD and DSonIL

Spoke to DB while I was in Canberra with a thought of what we could add to the menu while he is here in October. So far we have a chicken curry and rice that Mum will make and he will bring with him. Another idea is bbq chicken sliders with coleslaw and cheese and maybe a side of onion rings. Will think of a few more items, might get some ideas from what you are all meal planning at the moment, I often get inspiration from your meal plans especially in the warmer months.
