"Kaffee und Kuchen" is German for Coffee and Cake. Their tradition is to have Kaffee und Kuchen in the afternoon rather than having dessert right after dinner. Ours is usually coffee and whatever dessert we have (not usually cake). This week it's pumpkin pie since I had a pie crust in the freezer as well as pureed pumpkin from last year. We have a Germam DSonIL who introduced us to this tradition, and I latched right on! It's truly a much better way to enjoy a dessert and is a simple way to entertain, not having to fix a big meal plus dessert. Also, since we are retired, it's nice to do the entertaining in the afternoon. So usually, when we invite people for Kaffee und Kuchen, we either don't eat dinner or we eat lighter ... thus, leftovers are listed for dinner.

Ah! Sound totally fun! Yes, if we have goodies around here, I prefer to eat it in the afternoons rather than after dinner when I just sit around afterwards. :)

My grandma's Kuchen is a poppy seed pastry roll up thingy made with yeast dough. YUM.

Have been lousy at menu planning. Tonight is ribs, fried potatoes and corn. Lacking veggies as seems my norm now.

Well. Next week (Sunday-Saturday), we three are going on vacation. My dad planned a family reunion. The adult kids (from his second marriage and my step mom’s first marriage) will fly in from Chicago. We will drive four hours south to West Palm Beach. So, dinners will be fun as two sets will make a dinner for everyone else …. And then next night a different set , etc So my half and step sisters and brothers and all their kids will make a nice crowd! :)

Last three days menu has been Turkey. I found a cooked turkey breast at Costo. First night it was Turkey Fry Up (fried potatoes with a bag of sauerkraut dumped on top and cut up turkey), yesterday was Hot Brown Sandwiches (which are not brown at all but named from the Hotel where they were served) and tonights Turkey, cheese with Cranberry Mayo on Pitas turned into Grilled Turkey and Cheese since I was out of Cranberry sauce.

We are back from Vacation! It was nice!

Got back late Saturday, so Sunday we pulled out the frozen pierogis from Aldi's and fried those up with a sausage patty. Tonight will be tacos as I had some gr turkey put back in the freezer. We will eat from the pantry/freezer until Friday's shopping day and I'll plan for next week!
