We had our Thanksgiving early this yearIMG_7578.jpeg. Wednesday I was talking to DS about when he would like Thanksgiving. He said Sunday. So with four days to prepare I pulled out my notebook and went shopping. Dh had found a Smoked turkey at Sam's Club. Took two hours to reheat it after it had thawed. If we can find one next year we will have it again. It was marked gluten free. If you try one be prepared it will be pinkish looking. Remember it is smoked like a ham. DS who does the carving was a bit worried at first. I did forget to cook the stuffing so that will be added to a leftover Turkey meal in the next two days. I have made a note for next year that DGS will carve the Turkey next year. He will be 10 so is old enough to learn.

What did you learn about at your Thanksgiving?

There will be just 6 of us this year, and DD and DSIL are hosting. Both he and his sister (who will be there with her oldest son) have been on a weight loss journey the last 18 months. So the meal will be without some of the traditional sides (in part because of the size of our group and dietary desires). But, I've been asked to bring the green bean casserole. And, I'm looking for alternative low-sugar / more natural pie recipes. We are dining on Thanksgiving Day, so I'll post up later how it goes.

Heading up to Syracuse for the last year since DSIL and DBIL will be moving to CA.

I am tasked with bringing the pecan pie, mac and cheese and green bean casserole.

Just the 2 of us, son spends thanksgiving with his birth mom. I’ll make a pumpkin pie sometime Wednesday and will pick up our turkey dinner at Burntwood during the afternoon.

On Thanksgiving (In October) the family came over (except 1 brother and 2 children). It was our local geese festival. Was nice. Stephen (brother) brought lasagnas and cake for supper. Dinner was soup and bell pepper casserole (I think? not sure I remember right but it was a casserole). They all slept over and it went fine. will be better next year as the 2 basement bedrooms now each have a bed and I also bought a new inflatable mattress. Some new pillows and new bed has all new bedding too.

Pecan pie is my favorite. For Christmas I have the recipe for pecan pie made without corn syrup. Old recipe from 1914.

Ours was nice, quiet, yummy, relaxing, and joyful. DS21 had his childhood friend, 23, over. DH and I prepared it and the boys cleaned up!

I bought myself a turkey drumstick and chicken livers and put them in the crockpot. Then I found at ALDI’s a smaller turkey breast and that went into another crockpot. Things one does when one prefers dark meat and one only eats white meat! And both were delicious and moist. :)

Thanksgiving was wonderful, having my DM here and spending Turkey Day with DD & DSIL. They did a wonderful job, and the turkey was moist and delicious. All of the sides were tasty, too. But it was exhausting! Returned DM to her assisted living facility yesterday, amidst a snowstorm. But all is well and now returning to normal.

Thanksgiving was bitter sweet. It was the first one since my mom passed however I was surrounded by family and friends which made it easier. We had a house full again which was good. DS got done work 2 hours earlier so he had more time to enjoy the company of his cousins. Food was great, company even better.

We had a nice day. We had enough turkey dinner for 3 meals even though I only order for 2 people, so that was nice. I found the thanksgiving paper plates I misplaced so very few dishes to wash. The only down side was missing everyone we’ve lost.

I went to a sister's for dinner. I helped her get the food ready while her sons watched football. She's a great cook. She's a widow too. Her sons are 27 and 33 I think. Then I went home to my dog and relaxed. Good day.

Good holiday with a California contingent and a NYC contingent together with the hosting Syracuse family. Might not all be together again soon since Syracuse family is moving to California.
