I'm reading I Love You, Michael Collins and I have Cape and Front Desk on tap. All are Nene Award Nominee books for this year here in Hawaii. I'm not really enjoying what i'm reading so it's slow going. I might switch to the next book for a bit.

I so want to finish my 20 this year and I'm a tad behind. I started 3 books that I didn't finish. I literally had 20 minutes or an hour or so and ran out of time at the library before it made me delete the mp3 file. So if I get those checked back out, I'll get them marked off my list.

and that Pioneer Lady's Country Christmas looks like something I'd really enjoy. I might check it out.

Have you read any of her other books?

Winter Garden was the first of her books I read years ago and have continued to read her books. She's a northwest author, so from my neck of the woods. I haven't read all of her books yet, but I'm working on it. I can't read too much of one author at one time. One book of hers I read in one day and took a picture of my chair with the book and the pile of tissues I needed before finishing it.

She has become my favorite author. Firefly Lane is one of my favorites. I have read six, I believe, of her books.

My goal for the year is 12 books. I've been doing well.
I just started Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. I have not gotten far into it yet.

Just finished The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. I would recommend it.

I'll be back to report what book I start next. Several options on my library hold list.

I'm reading Roommaid by Sariah Wilson. It's an Amazon Prime first read. Good "bubblegum" reading.

At work I am reading A Matter of Blood by Sarah Pinborough. I didn't think I would like it, but it's turning out to be pretty good. (I have a work book to read & an at home book to read.) :)

Read first two chapters of "We Band of Angels: The Untold Story of the American Women Trapped on Bataan" last night. Had to force myself to put it down!

Is it hard to read?

I haven't found it to be - it does help knowing that ALL of the nurses survived. There was only one attempted - failed! - rape involved as well. I have this knowledge going into reading the book because I watched a YouTube video of the author on C-SPAN.

It is still difficult of course to read about what they had to go through, what they were up against. It is mind boggling! But fascinating and I find so much to admire. What they accomplished was amazing!!!

Side Note - An "easier" way to approach the story of these women might be a film called "So Proudly We Hail" - it is definitely given the Hollywood treatment - with a large focus on the nurses love lives - but many of the details are very accurate. I've always loved the movie and have meant to order this book for a long time - finally just did it!!!

I'm taking a break from the Nene award nominee books and reading Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky.
