So my daughter is asking for help brainstorming ideas for their couple stockings this year. They are taking a big trip to Germany and Paris in January, so it will be the first time ever she's not been home for Christmas. Christmas stockings are her absolute favorite, but they are on a pretty tight budget as a young couple and my son in law working on his masters. So she turned to mom and "her Christmas buddies" to help come up with some suggestions. She wants to try and think of a theme or ways they can both fill each other stockings inexpensively. My only thought is the dollar tree, but I know we can do better..lol She's open to non traditional ideas too.

Each item given has a note attached for a job or treat

Dishcloth--with a note I'll do the dishes
Car wash mitt--with a note for a car wash
Sample of Lotion-I'll rub your feet/back
Keychain with an ice cream cone charm...
Ear Plugs-for a silent napping hour

They could keep this going for lifetime as a tradition

I would think of things that they can use for their holiday,
Travel lollies,
toothbrush and toothpaste for toiletries bag,
travel sized shampoo/conditioner,
phone card,
puzzle book for on plane,
chewing gum,
headache medication,
pen for writing postcards,
mittens and beanie,

Adding on to the travel theme, these were things that were helpful for our family while on the plane for our cross country flights:

Chapstick
travel tissue packs
Tic Tacs (candy)
Pen
Pocket book size writing pad
individually wrapped moist towelettes
Water bottle (can be filled after making it through TSA)

Most of these items can be purchased at the Dollar Tree store. If out of stock, the travel area of Walmart or Target should have them. :)

Mary, chap stick is a great idea. My lips tend to really dry out on a plane. I suppose you could also add quells (travelcalm medicine) if needed.
the list is endless really

Jody, I got some feedback from her today and she likes the His and Her "Hobby" idea. Will be interesting to see what they do.
