I remember my GM and DM drilling it into my head that they must be blanched to kill the icky "Botu" spores (not sure if that B-word is on some internet banned word list that would impact my post here; it is banned on the canning and preserving forums I'm on), so I've always blanched veggies I put up for freezer storage. I look at it as "better safe than sorry".

I am planning on blanching some swedes i have in the garden....I read boil for 3 min then put veg in cold water with ice then dry off.
That's similar to how my GM would do her green beans, peas, and lima beans, though the times may have been shorter. But always from the blanching pot into an ice bath to stop the cooking. then dry and bag for the freezer.

I blanch vegetables for the freezer. Just be sure to cool them completely before putting in the freezer and make sure they're air tight so they don't get freezer burn.

No different from the frozen vegetables we buy at the market!

I blanch sweet corn to freeze. We are not a fan of frozen green beans blanched or not. We could not tell the difference when I froze them both ways. I freeze broccoli not blanched and it’s been fine.
Lori, Why can’t you use the “B” word on the canning forum? Profanity, etc I get but why is that prohibited?

The various canning and processing methods used across the world causes a lot of controversy with regard to "B" in foods canned using what some consider "unproven" methods. Not everyone follows USDA practices. And, for many people across the world access to a modern pressure canner is out of the question, meaning many still use old world methods. So, to keep peace, that's one on their "banned word" list.

Interesting! Thank you for the explanation.
