I'd like a head start for this (so I can buy in advance or better yet MAKE in advance). Anybody got ideas?

It's a great time to pick up Christmas coloring books-or you could print some pages off and make your own. Also little ornaments, etc.
I found quite a few things at yard sales last year-Christmas video, Christmas moose, Window clings, and ornies-all in one day!

Terry's Village has some really cute elf stuff on sale right now. I got two sets of elf ornaments for elf gifts for 2008 and I also got an elf snowman to come visit this Christmas.

Christmas or Elf books are always good, as well as gingerbread house kits. Any kind of treats or craft supplies.

My DK's liked special little candies, like finding a chocolate Santa or small container of Christmas M&M's. Sometimes our 'elf' left craft supplies, like Christmas colored pipe cleaners (chenille stems?), construction paper and (shudder*) glitter.

But just about any little treat will do -- Christmas music CD, hair barrettes, Christmas socks, lip balm. I LOVE jackfrosty's idea to check yard sales, and will definitely check Terry's Villiage!
