I like to have Christmas put away by New Year's Eve. I go back to work on January 2nd and I like to have the house "back to normal" before then.
In January I do a spruce up. There are 4 weeks and I concentrate on bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen and loungeroom, the 4 rooms that need the most attention in the first few weeks of the year.

I found this old post of mine ... about another old post ... LOL and well, I like lists, but I'm not great at the follow through. Perhaps this will maybe sort of help me start and keep the momentum. :)

For me, Christmas never gets put away until Epiphany. And, starting Jan. 1, I go back to my own personalized cleaning plan that is a room by room rotation throughout the months. I have archived copies of calendars I've used over the past umpteen years, so it's easy to print out a new one for Jan. 2024 and have it ready to follow. But, Christmas? Not until the 1st weekend in Jan., at the earliest.

Hanukkah gets to share the mantle with Christmas after the eight days.

I prefer to leave all the winter holiday stuff up until Epiphany but since we usually leave for FL right after New Year's I have to have everything put away because I don't want to come back to a winter house in April.

I like to concentrate on getting a head start for a few reasons. I really suffer from the post Christmas blues (every.single.year ) so by setting myself goals it does somewhat help with this.
I also just like the fact that we have a whole new 365 days to explore and I like to get moving with the adventure as soon as I can.

Christmas is still up on the main floor! Next week will start to come down.

What’s done: All the wrapping supplies and gift closet area.

In progress: Doing a pantry/ freezer challenge in January and February to tidy up those areas. Will use up all those things that are hanging around, going to out of date, etc, etc. I have given my self a 100$ budget per month for dairy and fresh produce only. I’m also doing a no spend Jan/feb too. We absolutely need nothing, not even food!! Do not need to bring anything new into this house. Husband is trying to play along. He did buy me a birthday ice cream cake and a quilting magazine for my birthday.
Also working on a list of things I need to either donate or pitch.

I have started my 4 weeks 4 rooms challenge. There are 4 weeks in January and I have 4 rooms that seem to suffer the most during the Christmas season. They are also the rooms that most Christmas gifts and stocking fillers received are to go in.
Week 1 bathrooms (X)
Week 2 Kitchen (X)
Week 3 Bedroom (X)
Week 4 Loungeroom (X)

By doing it this way my house gets back to order pretty quickly.
I will start a modified HGP in March to get the house ready for Winter.

Ah, so sad to pack it all away after DD31's mid January visit. But it was fun to still have Christmas with her!! DH and I did the dusting and vacuuming, too. And I have this curio cabinet that once a year, after Christmas, I take all the things off the shelves and give it a good once over. Whew!

I have started doing a modified HGP. It is the same cleaning plan as the HGP but none of the Christmas prep. I have done this twice a year for the last 4 or 5 years and it really helps keeping the house in good condition.
This week was front porch and entry way.,
