At first, I couldn't get a picture to come in on the web page. So, I went to the home page and searched for advent calendar and found the hat and mitten picture. How cute! I don't do knitting, except a wash cloth I've done, so I can't answer your question. But, boy, is that a cute craft!

I had fun googling for knit and crochet ornaments. Check these out (hope they are labeled right). I'm sure you could find more . . .

I relinked it- don't know why the other one didn't work :(.

Thanks for the links to the patterns! I will check them out. I am not a experienced enough to know how to pattern in the numbers.

It would be a great way to use up scraps- great idea!

Believe me I noticed that one too! I just don't have the place to store or display something so big!

How 'bout if you used those little tiny clothespins ( http://tinyurl.com/36l8zr ) to hang them from and wrote the numbers on the clothespins? WTAWTAW (where there's a will there's a way).

I do a fair bit of knitting, and I think a beginner could handle the little hats and mittens. The hats would be especially easy. You'd just need the patience to make all 24 or 25 pieces.

As for the numbers, I like the clothespin idea! Other ways would be to embroider them or use a fabric paint. Also, learning to knit them in is really not that hard. I avoided doing any kind of graphics for years, until my Nanny told me it was the easiest thing in the world and taught me how in about ten minutes.

If you don't find patterns, let me know, I think I have some in a Christmas book somewhere.

What a cute idea! Even though I don't know how to knit or crochet (they're on my 'bucket list'!), this could probably even be made out of felt and embroidery. Hmmm. . .

BTW, DahliaDoll, I LOVE your idea of numbering the clothespins! Pretty smart thinking!
