A vest will be going to my niece. It's a beautiful vest, never worn... everytime I wanted to wear it, it just didn't feel right .

Especially all the embroidery that had those stains from years gone by....I had tears too. But there were other items we kept and of course lots of photos... There are 4 sets of china in that house and the next generation doesn't want it. What to do?
I wonder if there is a decent non-profit thrift store that will accept those items. Maybe something affiliated with a church or hospital? If I have good usable items that no one wants, then I will drive the extra distance to donate the items.

I was taking out stocking stuffers from my gift tote box and found a bunch of brand new items that my children have outgrown. They were underneath plastic bags. I will donate them.

Myron's Mom - I'm spent a chunk of my summer doing just this. Cleaning out my parents house. Soooo hard! My mom had these old dresses, hats and such she saved from the 40s also. I was able to justify keeping some of them because we have a dress-up box which will go to future grandchildren. But the rest of it I had to let go. Killed me. Especially all the embroidery that had those stains from years gone by....I had tears too. But there were other items we kept and of course lots of photos... There are 4 sets of china in that house and the next generation doesn't want it. What to do?
You wouldn't think after all theses years it would be so painful. I lost both my parents 8 months apart in 2011. When we were going through the house before the auction I felt like I was putting them both on the curb for the trash. More and more I’ve been able to get rid of stuff I brought home, I found I have to be in the mood. I’ve been trying to “recycle” atleast some of the stuff. All the old clothes mom saved are being made into quilts, so at least they are useful. Even that was difficult cutting to that first batch of clothes. I remember helping mom go through grandmas house, and how hard that was on mom. I guess we all go through it. It’s just our turn now.
You might try selling your China at a flea market or donate it. Maybe pick out a piece or two that you can use to decorate with. I saved the tea pots for my husbands mother’s and grandmothers sets. They are displayed on top of one of my china cabinets.

You can save a teacup from the sets and then make candles for all the kids/grandkinds/ great if any. I did that for my mom and 2 sisters for Christmas one year from both our grandmas sets.

Ended up with a full sack of trash from Teigans room. Combined sacks of to small of clothes together, found some bigger bags (plastic) that I had been keeping and sound some empty choclate coin wrappers in the closet.

Found deer antlers that she had taken out of Uncle Ryans room and put in her closet under stuff. We knew she had them. Of course they aren't getting trashed. LOL!

Bought new drinking glasses at Menards this weekend, buy 1 for a $1 get one free! Got 14 large and 14 medium sized - brought them home and promptly boxed up old glasses and dropped them off at Goodwill. Several had broken, they didn't sit level, etc.

Will move on to DH loungeroom this weekend. A lot of items in there belong to DD. Not sure what to do with them yet.

Ah the dilemma, What to do with kids stuff when they move out......You could pick up on Lucie's plan and everytime she comes over give her something and then when you visit her take her something. She'll be gifted everytime you see each other.:)

One of the problems id that DD and BF have moved into a tiny 1 bedroom unit. They simply do not have room for what is here. DD is sensible and I know that when they move into a bigger house she will take it.
