Anybody have any fun Summer books they plan on tackling this summer?

I try to read "lighter" fare during the summer months.

Thinking I may pick up something today! :)

Dont have my kindle in front of me & have to get ready for BS. But I believe the authors name is Delia Parr I'm on the second book of a series of hers. It's about a lady & her MIL who run a bed & breakfast, think it's set in early 1900's. But I'm really liking it will post titles later...

I have a bunch of stuff in my Kindle app on the iPad to choose from. I probably won't get heavy into anything until after we move and get settled.

I just packed all my books except one that looked like light summer reading. I'll let you know if it's any good.

Jess - when are you all moving?

Tricia~thanks for the link. I'm reading Escape by Barbara Delinsky right now. Has anyone read the Shades of Grey books? From what I gather they aren't very Christian so I've put off reading them. I also have several books on the kindle to work through this summer. I love to read my magazines in the summer too...take them on the boat and to camp.

I haven't got anything in mind, but, Tricia, your book series sounds like I would like it. I don't favor books set in modern times. I like early 1900s or even earlier. I started Rhett Butler's People last summer, but it's a heavy read. I may try to finish it this summer.

Lisa Escape sounds good. Lucie I have Hunger Games but not in a hurry to read it:)

The book I recommended above was set in the 1840's I started to say 1800's but 19 kept popping in my mind..duh 19th century.

Night all:)

The Jane's Evanovich books are funny and light. One for the Money is the first and now is up to 18. They can pretty much be read out of order but after a while are a little predictable.

Lise- i have heard 50 shades of Grey is very steamy. Some places consider some in the series almost pornographic. I have not read it personally.

Any one read I am number four and that series.

Kim- We will actually leave here probably no later than the 4th of June, maybe sooner if they say we can get into the house sooner. Just depends on that. DH reports to work on the 10th so it's cutting it very close.

I love Janet Evanovich! I have read the entire series. They have started to get a little repetitive but the last one was pretty good. I haven't read the Shades of Grey books yet, I want to though just too cheap to buy it. LOL I have heard they are good. I bought The Lucky One at the airport and started reading it but haven't gotten very far yet, just haven't had time.

Lisa- Carol started reading the 50 Shades of Grey.
She said it was all about a girl being subserviant to a man (in bed).

Carol stopped reading it saying, "I've worked my whole life to be a strong, empowered woman in my own right."

She didn't like the way the girl (a virgin at the beginning of the book) was being ordered around.

Lucie- The Hunger Games was a bit too violent for me. But, that's my opinion.

Both my thoughts are just my opinion- there are tons of people out there that loved and are loving both these series.

Shannon - I've read I Am Number Four and The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies) with my nephew, they aren't bad, but we liked the Maze Runner series by James Dashner better (it's a trilogy). Are you specifically looking for books that your boys would enjoy as well? The Ranger's Apprentice books by John Flanagan are good too...I think they're up to 11 or 12 now...I read the first 5 only. And of course Rick Riordan. Let me know if you need more suggestions - I've read a lot of YA/teen books with my nieces and nephew and my policy is to never "gift" a book or series without reading at least the first book myself (sometimes I'm shocked at what is considered YA)

As for Shades of Grey, I did read the first one - at the request of my aunt. IMHO, it is not nearly as graphic as books like the Black Dagger Brotherhood (which also touches on BDSM with certain characters), but I'm not likley to read the rest of the trilogy. I personally think its not very well written at all - regardless of the story line. The phrase "Inner goddess" must appear at least 100 times. ugh. For me, it was like a bad romance novel. Of course, they are on every best seller list imaginable, so if you're just curious to see what the fuss is about, it is a quick read...but I wouldn't advise reading it in public if you blush easily! ;) BTW - I love the Black Dagger series - again, not exactly award winning prose, but very entertaining!

I just finished Lover Reborn, not as good as the first of the BDB series. I might have to be content to just reread the first few books. So far they are the only vampire books I like.

Right now I have nothing from the library for me to read. I've gotten really picky about what I read. If the author hasn't gotten my attention in the first chapter or two I'm done with the book.

Haven't found any series to ready lately. Hopefully in the next few months I'll find something that will hold my attention.

I have read a lot of books by Ted Dekker. Mostly psychological thriller w/ good vs evil being the primis in most. There are several series and read alone books. I can usually see the ending coming in books but never his the twist gets me every time.

colleen thx for the suggestions. The first was free in kindle and I know it was a movie hut I didn't know anything about them.

I just picked up a couple of books (real books with pages, lol) at the library for the summer reading program. I started reading Quilter's Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini from the Elm Creek Quilts Series. I believe it is the first novel in a long series of fiction about a group of quilters. I noticed the most recent one in the area where the new books are promoted...but wanted to start with the first. I read more than half of the book last night and really liked it. I also picked up a Debbie Macomber Christmas book. The Perfect Christmas.

My kindle is SO full of books. The only reason I even stopped at the library was to sign up for the summer program and get my card changed over to the new system they started this month. I am pretty excited that my library has decided to join the new century and start offering books for e-readers in a few weeks.

Diedra - have you read any of JR Ward's new series...I think it is about Fallen Angels?

Candysprinkles- Lana has read the Elm Creek Quilt books.

That's cool that your library has a summer reading program!
