Just downloaded Girl Gone Mad: A Novel by Avery Bishop

Amazon is offering 5 dollars if you read for 10 days during the month of August. I signed up. I figured that I may read enough to get it.

Where do you find this stuff? LOL I just looked on Amazon and didn't see anything about it. :(

Rabble - what an interesting way your library has of selecting books for readers!

Especially interesting since I was a librarian for 30 years.

You had my dream job! What was that like?

I think it would be cool for them to do it post-corona. Mayve have a unit of "blind date" books that you can't see until you've checked them out!
I was speaking to a librarian today when I called to order a new bundle. She told me people were moaning about receiving paperback books instead of preferred hardback etc. Pathetic. I'm just happy they're sort of open.

I've been reading The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers. It's one of those books that's hard to put down.

Anyway, when they asked me what I read I said "anything - surprise me!"

Jeez what a mistake. I got eight books of very dubious, poorly written 'chick lit' including ones that are book 3 or 4 in a series!

Sounds like they surprised you!

I went into our library for 5 minutes to see if they had a DVD a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't even sure if it was open but I saw a few cars there so I checked it out. In the past, that place is always packed with overflow parking filled. This time, I was one of 10 cars in the lot. It probably has parking for 40. We are only allowed to go into the library for 30 minutes to browse. It was so sad inside. It had been a vibrant community gathering place.

That had been my dream job in high school. I couldn't afford the school that offered the library science degree. I got into teaching preschoolers instead. I got my fix by spending lots of time perusing the library shelves for awesome picture books. Was being a librarian as dreamy as it sounded?

I get what you mean about community and libraries. Our one in the city centre used to do loads of classes/workshops/clubs etc. It was a meeting and socialising place for a lot of people. All the classes were free too, so I imagine that alone has impacted a lot of people and families.

Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. It's at work in my locker.
I haven't been reading an at-home book lately. Too tired.

Have you read any of her other books?

Winter Garden was the first of her books I read years ago and have continued to read her books. She's a northwest author, so from my neck of the woods. I haven't read all of her books yet, but I'm working on it. I can't read too much of one author at one time. One book of hers I read in one day and took a picture of my chair with the book and the pile of tissues I needed before finishing it.

Are you a PRIME member? It was at the top of my screen when I was picking out my First Read for August. Of course, I can't find it now.

I am a Prime member but things never pop up like that for me and I only hear about them from you. LOL I ended up saving the link for the First Reads because I couldn't find them for this month and had to come back here and find where you told me about it. So weird.

I'm reading A Boy Called Bat. It's one of the Nene Award Nominee books for this year. My host teacher and I challenged each other to read them all and there are 49 of them. We are trying to encourage our 5th graders to read. I finished Wishtree yesterday and it was so good!

Our libraries are not really open, you can't go in and walk around. You can place a hold and then make an appointment to pick up your books. The on base libraries are open though so we've been going to one of those to get books lately. I always dreamed of being a librarian!

Definitely weird. I usually search First Reads, but I do get emails each month with the books listed. Do you get the prime emails?

I don't think so, but maybe. I'll have to check my settings in Amazon. DH's email is also in there so he may be getting them instead of me.

Indulging in The Pioneer Lady's Country Christmas - it's technically a cookbook, but full of poetry and stores of old fashioned Christmases :)
